# Set up alternative access for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/alternative-access/set-up-alternative-access Set up BackupMaster's external portal so you can access your backed-up data even if you lose access to your BigCommerce admin. Set up alternative access so you can browse your backed-up data outside BigCommerce. It's an external portal with its own login, independent of your BigCommerce admin. You need to set it up while you still have access to BackupMaster in your BigCommerce admin. ## When you need it * **Store suspended or closed** — your backed-up data stays accessible through the portal. * **Locked out of BigCommerce** — password issues, account disputes, or revoked admin access. * **Team transitions** — a store owner leaves and admin access needs to be reassigned. ## Activate the portal Go to **Settings**. Select **Activate and Set Password**. Select **Send** to receive a registration email. Open the email and select the registration link to create a password for the portal. Return to **Settings** in BackupMaster. Copy your data access link and save it somewhere secure. You also receive the link by email. The portal uses encrypted data transmission, email verification, and the password you set during activation. If you uninstall BackupMaster, portal access continues only while your backup data exists. See [Data retention](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) for details on how long data is kept after uninstalling. # How BigCommerce backups work Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work Learn how BackupMaster protects your BigCommerce store by tracking changes, saving versions, and retaining your data. BackupMaster backs up your BigCommerce store by pulling data through the BigCommerce API, saving each item individually, and tracking changes over time. Every backed-up item has its own version history, so you can see what changed, when it changed, and restore a previous version if you need to. ## The initial backup When you install BackupMaster and select a plan, the app runs an initial backup of your store. It pulls every [supported item](/bigcommerce/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) — products, categories, themes, pages, and more — and saves each one as its first version in backup storage. This creates a restore point for all your store data. Initial backup in progress showing per-category status Wait for the initial backup to finish before you [clone data to another store](/bigcommerce/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) or restore to that point. Both features depend on having a completed backup to work from. How long the initial backup takes depends on your store's size and BigCommerce's API rate limits. A small store can finish in minutes; a large store with thousands of products can take several days. Backups run in the background and don't affect your store's performance, so you can close the browser tab while one runs — BackupMaster sends an email when it finishes. The initial backup establishes a baseline; from then on, BackupMaster only needs to track what changed. BackupMaster can only back up data from the point of installation onward. Data that existed before installation but was changed or deleted before the initial backup completed cannot be recovered. ## Automatic daily backups After the initial backup finishes, BackupMaster runs an automatic daily backup. Instead of pulling your entire store again, it requests only the data that changed since the last backup. For each changed item, the app compares the BigCommerce version with the version already in storage. If the item is different, BackupMaster saves it as a new version. For example, if you update a product's price, the next backup detects the change and saves the updated product as a new version. Over time, this builds a complete version history for each item. You can also run a backup manually at any time with the **Backup Now** button on the dashboard. Manual backups use the same change detection as automatic ones. Run one before a major change like an import or a bulk edit to give yourself a recent restore point to fall back on. Dashboard showing latest backup time and next auto backup countdown BackupMaster assigns a daily backup time when you install the app. On the Plus plan, you can set a custom backup time in **Settings**. On the Essentials and Pro plans, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) with your preferred time and time zone. ## Version history Every item that BackupMaster backs up has its own version history. Each time a backup detects a change to an item, BackupMaster saves the item's current state as a new version. If the item hasn't changed, no new version is created. Over time, this builds a timeline of versions for each item individually. ```mermaid theme={null} flowchart LR A["Day 1
Product created
Version 1"] --> B["Day 2
No changes"] --> C["Day 3
Price changed
Version 2"] --> D["Day 4
No changes"] ``` Backups run every day, but BackupMaster only saves a new version when something changed. Days without changes don't add a version — this keeps version history clean, and each version represents an actual change. To view an item's version history, open the BackupMaster app, go to **Backup Storage**, and select a category. Select any item to see its versions. The comparison view shows the current live data on the left and the backed-up version on the right, with a dropdown to switch between versions. You can [restore a supported item](/bigcommerce/restores/restore-a-single-item) to a previous version directly from this view. Side-by-side comparison of current and backed-up product versions with version dropdown For step-by-step instructions on browsing and comparing versions, see [View and browse backed-up BigCommerce data](/bigcommerce/backups/view-and-browse-backed-up-data). You can also [export your backups](/bigcommerce/exports-and-imports/export-and-download-a-backup) or [clone data to another store](/bigcommerce/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) for staging or migration. ## Restore points Each backup creates a restore point — a snapshot of your store data at that moment. You can restore any item to any captured version within the retention window. As backups accumulate, each item builds its own timeline of versions, so you have more points to choose from. Bulk restore view showing available restore points to choose from ## Data retention All plans include one-year retention for backup versions. You can restore any item to any version captured within the past year. BackupMaster automatically removes versions older than one year. After you uninstall BackupMaster, your Paddle subscription is canceled automatically. Your backup data is kept for seven days and then permanently deleted from BackupMaster's servers. Deleted data can't be recovered. ## Store performance and API rate limits BackupMaster connects to your store through the BigCommerce API only. It doesn't inject any code into your storefront, so your page load times and customer experience aren't affected. BigCommerce enforces API rate limits that control how frequently any app can send requests. BackupMaster stays within these limits automatically. A few factors affect how long backups and restores take: * Each item (product, page, category) requires one or more API calls. * Products with many images need multiple calls each. * Stores with thousands of items need thousands of API calls over time. If backup progress looks stuck, BackupMaster is most likely processing items that require many API calls, such as products with hundreds of images. Wait for the completion email before assuming there's a problem. If no progress shows for more than two hours, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # View and browse backed-up BigCommerce data Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/backups/view-and-browse-backed-up-data Browse, search, and compare backed-up versions of your BigCommerce store data. BackupMaster stores every version of your backed-up items so you can browse, search, and compare them against your live store data. Use backup storage to track changes over time or find the right version before you restore. **Prerequisites** * At least one completed backup ## Browse and compare versions Open the BackupMaster app in your BigCommerce admin and find the **Backup Storage** section on the dashboard. The dashboard shows each data category with item counts. Backup storage dashboard showing data categories Select a category such as **Products** or **Pages**, then type a search term in the search bar to find a specific item. Select an item to view its backed-up versions. Selecting a product from the backed-up items list When you select an item, the comparison view opens. The live store version appears on the left and the backed-up version appears on the right. Billing runs through Paddle using the payment method provided during each store's setup. Make sure your client is aware of the subscription and has the information they need to manage it. To install and manage BackupMaster on behalf of the store owner, you need store admin access with app management permissions. ## Multi-store pricing If you manage many client stores, we can offer multi-store pricing. Contact us at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) to learn more. # Billing and payments for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/billing-and-payments How BackupMaster billing works on BigCommerce, including Paddle payments, invoices, and free trials. All BackupMaster billing on BigCommerce runs through [Paddle](https://www.paddle.com/). Paddle handles subscriptions, invoicing, and tax calculations separately from your BigCommerce billing. You don't need to set up anything in BigCommerce for payments. ## Billing cycle Your subscription renews **monthly** through Paddle. The cycle starts when your 7-day free trial ends. Paddle sends invoices to your email automatically after each billing cycle. If you haven't received an invoice, check your spam or junk folder. You can also contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) for a copy. ## Free trial Every new installation starts with a **7-day free trial** with full access to your selected plan's features. Charges begin after the trial ends. If you uninstall BackupMaster before the trial ends, no charges apply. ## Changing plans mid-cycle You can change your plan at any time. Paddle doesn't prorate charges or credits when you upgrade or downgrade — the new plan price applies on your next billing date. For details, see [Manage your subscription](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/manage-your-subscription). ## Charges after uninstalling Uninstalling BackupMaster cancels your Paddle subscription and all future charges immediately. The current billing cycle still applies — charges already incurred aren't reversed. If you think a charge is incorrect, see [Refunds](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/refunds). # Cancel your BigCommerce subscription Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/cancel-your-subscription How to cancel your BackupMaster subscription by uninstalling the app from BigCommerce, and what happens to your data and billing. To cancel BackupMaster, uninstall the app from your BigCommerce store. There's no separate cancellation step. **Prerequisites** * You must be the store owner or a staff member with permission to manage apps Go to **Apps** in the left menu. Find BackupMaster in your installed apps list and select **Uninstall**. ## What happens after you uninstall * **Billing:** Your Paddle subscription is canceled automatically. Any pending charges already incurred still apply. * **Backup data:** Your data is kept for 7 days, then permanently deleted. See [Data retention](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) for details. * **Store code:** BackupMaster doesn't inject code into your store, so there's nothing to clean up. ## Need help? If you have questions or need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Manage your BigCommerce subscription Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/manage-your-subscription How to upgrade, downgrade, or change your BackupMaster plan on BigCommerce. You can change your BackupMaster plan at any time. Open the BackupMaster app in your BigCommerce admin, go to **Settings** > **Subscription**, and select a different plan. ## Upgrade your plan When you upgrade, your new plan takes effect immediately. Paddle doesn't prorate charges — the full price of the new plan is billed on your next billing date. BackupMaster tracks your order volume automatically. If your store exceeds your plan's limit for three consecutive months, you need to upgrade to a plan that matches your current order volume. For details, see [Plans and pricing](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing#exceeding-your-order-limit). ## Downgrade your plan When you downgrade, your new plan takes effect immediately. Paddle doesn't prorate charges or issue credits for unused time on your previous plan. You can only downgrade to a plan that supports your store's current order volume. If your store processes more orders than a lower plan allows, that plan isn't available. Your backed-up data is preserved when you downgrade, but you lose access to features that aren't included in the lower plan. ## Cancel your subscription To cancel BackupMaster, uninstall the app from your BigCommerce store. For details, see [Cancel your subscription](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/cancel-your-subscription). ## Need help? If you have questions or need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Multiple BigCommerce stores Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/multiple-stores How BackupMaster subscriptions work when you have more than one BigCommerce store. Each BigCommerce store needs its own BackupMaster installation and subscription. BackupMaster connects to each store's BigCommerce API independently, and each store's plan and billing are managed separately through Paddle. Install BackupMaster on each store individually and choose a plan based on the store's order volume and feature needs. Plans can differ across stores — for example, a high-volume store might use Plus while a smaller store uses Essentials. ## Multi-store pricing If your brand operates several stores, we can offer multi-store pricing. Each case is reviewed individually — contact us at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) to discuss your setup. For agencies managing client stores, see [Agencies and BigCommerce partners](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/agencies-and-bigcommerce-partners). # Plans and pricing for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing How BackupMaster pricing works, what each plan includes, and how to choose the right plan for your BigCommerce store. ## How pricing works BackupMaster pricing is based on your store's **average number of orders per month** and the **features** you need. Order volume correlates closely with overall store activity and the amount of data BackupMaster needs to back up, making it a reliable way to match your plan to your store's size. During setup, BackupMaster checks your store's order volume over the past three months and recommends the best-fit plan. Plans that don't match your order volume are disabled automatically. If your store is new and has no order history, all plans are available. If your order count is temporarily higher than usual because of a store migration, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) and we'll help you choose the right plan. Every new installation starts with a **7-day free trial** with full access to your selected plan's features. Charges begin after the trial ends. ## Plans BackupMaster offers three plan tiers. Each higher tier includes all features from the lower tiers, plus additional capabilities. | Feature | Essentials | Pro | Plus | | - | :-: | :-: | :-: | | Monthly order limit | 300 | 600 | 1,500 | | Monthly price | \$9 | \$39 | \$79 | | Daily automated backups | | | | | Individual & bulk restore | | | | | Version history & comparison | | | | | 1-year data retention | | | | | External portal access | | | | | Data export (ZIP/email) | - | | | | Google Drive upload | - | | | | Store-to-store transfer | - | | | | Audit logs | - | - | | | Priority support | - | - | | For stores with higher order volumes, additional Plus plans are available. For details, see the [pricing page](https://www.backupmaster.io/backupmaster-pricing-plans-for-bigcommerce-stores), or select a Plus plan directly in the app. Paddle handles all billing for BackupMaster on BigCommerce. For more information, see [Billing and payments](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/billing-and-payments). ## Exceeding your order limit BackupMaster tracks your order volume automatically. If your store exceeds the plan limit for three consecutive months, you need to upgrade to a plan that matches your current order volume. Pricing is tied to order volume, so your plan needs to reflect your store's actual usage. Your backups keep running while you're over the limit, so your data stays protected in the meantime. Upgrade as soon as the app notifies you. To upgrade, go to **Settings** > **Subscription** in the BackupMaster app and select a higher plan. Your plan is never upgraded automatically, so seasonal spikes don't trigger unexpected charges. ## Need help? If you have questions or need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Refunds for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/refunds How to request a refund for BackupMaster on BigCommerce and answers to common billing questions. ## Request a refund To request a refund, email [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) with your BigCommerce store URL, the charge you'd like refunded, and the reason for your request. We usually respond within a few hours on business days. Approved refunds are processed by Paddle and returned to your original payment method. # Clone your BigCommerce store data to another store Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store Transfer your BigCommerce store data to another store for staging, migration, expansion, or development. Clone data from one BigCommerce store to another — including products, categories, pages, and more. BackupMaster uses the source store's backup as the basis for the transfer, so both stores need BackupMaster installed with a completed backup. ## When to use cloning * **Staging or development** — clone production data to a test store to safely try theme changes, app integrations, or bulk edits. * **Regional expansion** — duplicate your catalog and content to a store targeting a different market or currency. * **New brand setup** — use an existing store as a template for a new brand. ## Supported data types | Data type | Supported | | - | - | | Products | | | Categories | | | Brands | | | Pages | | | Blog posts | | | Customers | | | Price lists | | Orders, gift certificates, store settings, themes, redirects, widgets, scripts, and third-party app data are not transferred. ## Clone your store **Prerequisites** * BackupMaster installed on both stores * A Pro plan or higher on the source store (the destination can be on any plan) * A completed initial backup on both stores The steps below use "store-us" as the source and "store-eu" as the destination. Replace these with your actual store names. ```mermaid theme={null} flowchart LR A["store-us (source) store-us.mybigcommerce.com"] --> B[("store-us backup storage")] -- "Clone data" --> C["store-eu (destination) store-eu.mybigcommerce.com"] ``` ### On the source store In the source store's BigCommerce admin, go to **Apps** > **BackupMaster** and select **Clone store**. Clone store button on the BackupMaster dashboard Confirm that you're in the source store (store-us). Confirm source store screen Enter the destination store name (store-eu). Enter only the store name, not the full URL. For example, enter **store-eu** — not store-eu.mybigcommerce.com. Enter destination store name field Copy the unique code that BackupMaster generates. You enter this on the destination store. Generated clone code to copy ### On the destination store In the destination store's BigCommerce admin, go to **Apps** > **BackupMaster** and select **Clone store**. Confirm that you're in the destination store (store-eu). Confirm destination store screen Paste the code from the source store and select **Activate**. Activate clone code field and button Select the data types you want to clone and select **Next**. Data type selection screen for cloning Select **Start import** to begin the transfer. You can close the browser — BackupMaster sends an email when it finishes. Clone progress indicator showing transfer status ## How items are matched BackupMaster matches each item by ID first, then by handle in the destination store. If a match exists, the destination item is updated with the source version. If no match is found, a new item is created. Cloning the same data twice doesn't create duplicates. Items that exist only on the destination are left untouched. ## Errors during cloning Errors can happen for several reasons — temporary BigCommerce outages, store plan limits, missing data types, or edge cases. BackupMaster shows error details next to any affected item so you can see what went wrong. After resolving the issue, you can rerun the clone for any missed categories — everything that already transferred is skipped. If you need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) with the error details. ## Troubleshooting Verify that both stores have BackupMaster installed and that the source store is on the Pro plan or higher. Enter the store name only (for example, "store-eu"), not the full URL. You can run the clone again for any missed categories. BackupMaster matches items by ID and handle, so cloning the same data again updates existing items instead of creating duplicates. BigCommerce API rate limits can slow processing. Large stores may take several hours. Check your email for a completion notification before retrying. ## Frequently asked questions No. Items that exist only on the destination are left untouched. Cloning only updates items that match by ID or handle and creates new items for anything that doesn't exist yet. Yes. BackupMaster matches items by ID and handle, so cloning the same data again updates existing items instead of creating duplicates. No. Orders, gift certificates, store settings, and third-party app data are not transferred. Yes. Repeat the process for each destination store using a new clone code. No. You can close the browser after starting the import. BackupMaster sends an email when the process finishes. # What BackupMaster backs up, restores, and clones for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones A complete reference of every BigCommerce data type BackupMaster can back up, restore, and clone between stores. Knowing what's protected helps you prepare for data loss, store migrations, and disaster recovery. BackupMaster covers the core business data that keeps your BigCommerce store running — products, customers, orders, themes, and more. The table below shows every data type BackupMaster backs up and whether it can be restored or cloned. ## Supported data types | Data type | Backup | Restore | Clone | | - | - | - | - | | Products | | | | | Categories | | | | | Brands | | | | | Pages | | | | | Blog posts | | | | | Customers | | | | | Price lists | | | | | Redirects | | | - | | Shared options | | - | - | | Shared modifiers | | - | - | | Themes | | - | - | | Gift certificates | | - | - | | Orders | | - | - | Products include variants, images, options, modifiers, reviews, bulk pricing, custom fields, and videos (links to the video, not the source video file). Orders are backed up and can be exported for reporting and record-keeping. BigCommerce limits updates to existing orders, so BackupMaster doesn't support restoring or cloning orders. ## Unsupported data types The following items aren't backed up. Some are inaccessible due to BigCommerce API limitations, others are managed by third-party services, and some haven't been prioritized yet. This list changes over time as coverage expands. * Option sets * 301 redirects * Store settings (logos, branding, email templates) * Third-party apps and their data * Shipping data * Widgets * Theme customizations (changes made through the theme editor) * Blueprint (legacy) themes * Email subscribers * Scripts (including Script Manager) * Digital product files (for example, downloadable products) ## Request a new data type The list of supported data types keeps growing. If you need coverage for a data type that isn't listed above, let us know at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). Requests are prioritized based on customer demand and platform API availability. # Export and download a BigCommerce backup Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/exports-and-imports/export-and-download-a-backup Export your backed-up BigCommerce data and download it as a ZIP archive to your computer or external storage. Export your backed-up BigCommerce data as a ZIP archive you can download to your computer or external storage. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Exporting creates an additional copy on your local drive, adding a layer of protection that follows the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). It's also useful if you plan to pause or close your store temporarily. To transfer data between stores, use the [clone feature](/bigcommerce/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) instead — no need to download and re-import files. ## Export and download your backup **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup Open the BackupMaster app in your BigCommerce admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Select **Export Now**. Select the data types to include, choose **Send download link via email**, and select **Start Export**. Monitor the progress on your dashboard. You don't need to keep the app open — BackupMaster processes the export in the background and notifies you when it finishes. Check your email for the download link and save the ZIP file to your computer or external storage. The link expires after **seven days**. ## What the export file contains Exports come as ZIP archives in BackupMaster's internal format and include the data types you selected. For large exports, the archive is split into multiple volumes of about **500 MB** each. All volumes arrive in the same email. ## Troubleshooting Check your spam or junk folder. Verify that the email address on your account is correct. Start a new export if the seven-day window has passed. Refresh the dashboard. If the issue continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Set up scheduled exports for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/exports-and-imports/set-up-scheduled-exports Automate regular exports of your backed-up BigCommerce data to email or Google Drive on a weekly or monthly basis. Automate regular exports of your backed-up BigCommerce data to email or Google Drive on a weekly or monthly schedule. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Scheduled exports create regular additional copies on your local drive or Google Drive, adding a layer of protection that follows the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). ## Configure a scheduled export **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup * A Google account with available Drive storage (for Google Drive delivery) Open the BackupMaster app in your BigCommerce admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Select **Scheduled Export**. Choose your export frequency (**weekly** or **monthly**) and delivery method (**email** or **Google Drive**). If you choose Google Drive, authenticate your account when prompted. Select **Scheduled Export** to save and activate. Scheduled exports run on Sundays after the automatic backup finishes. ## Troubleshooting Check that your plan is active and the schedule is turned on in the export settings. Verify that you granted BackupMaster the required permission during the authentication flow. Try again in a different browser if needed. # Upload a BigCommerce backup to Google Drive Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/exports-and-imports/upload-a-backup-to-google-drive Export your backed-up BigCommerce data and upload it directly to Google Drive for cloud storage. Export your backed-up BigCommerce data and upload it directly to Google Drive for cloud storage. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Uploading to Google Drive creates an additional cloud copy, adding a layer of protection that follows the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). It's also useful if you plan to pause or close your store temporarily. To transfer data between stores, use the [clone feature](/bigcommerce/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) instead — no need to download and re-import files. ## Upload your backup to Google Drive **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup * A Google account with available Drive storage Open the BackupMaster app in your BigCommerce admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Select **Export Now**. Select the data types to include and choose **Add to Google Drive** as the delivery method. Connect your Google Drive account when prompted. Make sure you select the permission checkbox so BackupMaster can create and upload files to your Drive. Select **Start Export**. Monitor the progress on your dashboard — you don't need to keep the app open. After the upload finishes, verify that the backup file appears in your Google Drive. You can download the file from Google Drive to local or external storage at any time. ## Folder structure in Google Drive BackupMaster creates a folder in your Google Drive based on your store name. Each export gets its own date folder: ``` storename-backup/ ├── 2026-03-01/ │ └── storename-export-20260301120000.zip ├── 2026-03-15/ │ └── storename-export-20260315120000.zip └── ... ``` Older exports are deleted automatically based on your configured retention policy. ## Change or disconnect your Google Drive account To switch to a different Google Drive account, open the export settings in BackupMaster and disconnect the current account. Then reconnect with the new Google account and grant the required permission. ## Permissions and security BackupMaster requests permission to create and manage files in your Drive. It can only access the folder it creates — it can't read or modify your other files. The connection uses Google's OAuth 2.0 authentication, and you can revoke access at any time from your Google account settings. ## Troubleshooting Make sure you select the permission checkbox during the authentication flow. Try a different browser if the issue continues. Check your storage at [drive.google.com/settings/storage](https://drive.google.com/settings/storage). Free up space or upgrade your Google storage plan, then retry the export. Refresh the dashboard. If the issue continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Get started with BackupMaster for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/getting-started/get-started-with-backupmaster Install BackupMaster on your BigCommerce store, choose a plan, and run your first backup. This tutorial walks you through setting up BackupMaster on your BigCommerce store and running your first backup. By the end, your store has automatic daily backups running. **Before you start:** * An active BigCommerce store * A BigCommerce account with permission to install apps ## Step 1: Install BackupMaster Open the BigCommerce App Store, search for **BackupMaster**, and select **Install**. BigCommerce shows a permissions screen that lists every data type BackupMaster needs to access — you grant all permissions at once as part of the install. BackupMaster uses these permissions to read your store data for backups and write to it during restores. After you approve, BigCommerce redirects you to the BackupMaster dashboard. ## Step 2: Choose a plan Each plan tier supports a different order volume range and includes different features. Review the available plans, pick one that fits your order volume and feature needs, and complete checkout through Paddle. BackupMaster plan selection screen with order volume indicator BackupMaster includes a **7-day free trial**. For a detailed breakdown of features and pricing, see [Plans and pricing](/bigcommerce/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing). ## Step 3: Run your first backup BackupMaster starts pulling data from the BigCommerce API as soon as you activate a plan. Open the BackupMaster dashboard and check the progress indicator to track the backup. Initial backup progress indicator on the BackupMaster dashboard Backup time depends on the size of your store. Small stores finish in minutes; stores with thousands of products can take a few hours. You can close the app and keep working in BigCommerce while the backup runs — BackupMaster sends you an email when it finishes. After the initial backup, BackupMaster runs a backup once every 24 hours automatically and captures only the items that changed since the previous run. For details on backup scheduling and manual backups, see [How backups work](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work). ## Step 4: Browse your backed-up data After the initial backup finishes, open the BackupMaster dashboard and select a data category such as **Products**. Backup storage dashboard showing data categories Select any item from the list to view its version history. Selecting a product from the backed-up items list The version history screen shows a side-by-side comparison of the backed-up version and the live store version. From here, you can also restore the item to a previous version. Your BigCommerce store holds products, themes, customer data, and content that took time to build. BackupMaster protects it with automatic daily backups and lets you restore, export, or clone your data when you need to. BackupMaster connects through the BigCommerce API, runs daily backups automatically, and tracks version history for every item. To see which data types are covered, check the [data type coverage](/bigcommerce/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) reference. ## Explore the docs Install BackupMaster, choose a plan, and run your first backup. BackupMaster shows a side-by-side comparison so you can verify the data before restoring. Restore a single item from your backup storage to a previous version. A side-by-side comparison view shows exactly what changes before you confirm, so you can verify the data first. **Prerequisites** * At least one completed backup in your backup storage * The item must belong to a [restorable category](/bigcommerce/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) ## Restore a single item Open **BackupMaster** from your BigCommerce admin, select **Backup Storage** from the dashboard, and choose the data category that contains your item (for example, **Products**, **Themes**, or **Customers**). Backup storage dashboard with data categories Search for the item by name, then select it to view its backed-up versions. Selecting a specific product to restore The comparison view shows your current live data on the left and the backed-up version on the right. Use the dropdown to switch between backup versions and find the one you need. Each version shows its capture date and time — pick the backup closest to (but before) the unwanted change. Compare and restore interface showing version differences Select the version you want, then select **Restore to this version**. Restore product button to initiate restoration Confirm the restore in the dialog. BackupMaster shows a success message when it finishes. Individual restores typically complete in seconds. Successful restoration confirmation message ## How restoring affects your live data BackupMaster matches each item in three steps: 1. **Match by ID** — BackupMaster looks for the item by its unique BigCommerce ID. If it finds one, it updates the existing item. 2. **Match by handle** — if no ID match exists (for example, the item was deleted and recreated), BackupMaster matches by handle (URL slug) and updates that item. 3. **Create new** — if neither ID nor handle matches, BackupMaster creates a new item from the backup. ## Troubleshooting A bulk operation (restore, export, or backup) is probably running. Wait for it to finish, then try again. Retry the restore. If the problem continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). Theme customizations made through the BigCommerce theme editor aren't included in backups. This is a BigCommerce API limitation. Reapply customizations manually after restoring. # Restore BigCommerce items in bulk Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/restores/restore-items-in-bulk Restore entire data categories at once instead of recovering items one by one. Bulk restore is the fastest way to roll back large amounts of store data to a previous state. Restore entire data categories at once instead of recovering items one by one. Bulk restore is the fastest way to roll back large amounts of store data to a previous state. **Prerequisites** * At least one completed backup in your backup storage * The categories you want to restore must be [supported for bulk restore](/bigcommerce/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) ## Run a bulk restore Open **BackupMaster** from your BigCommerce admin, go to **Backup Storage**, and select **Bulk Restore**. Bulk restore button on the backup storage dashboard Review the available backup versions — each one shows its capture date and time. Pick a restore point that falls **before** the issue occurred, choosing the version closest to the incident to minimize lost changes. If you're not sure when the problem started, check individual items in **Backup Storage** first. The comparison view lets you browse versions to identify when the unwanted change happened. Choosing a restore point from available backup versions Select the item categories you want to restore. You can pick multiple categories at once. Selecting item categories for bulk restore Select **Start Restore** to begin. You can close the browser — the restore continues in the background. Confirm and start the bulk restore process BackupMaster shows restore progress on the dashboard and sends an email when it finishes. If any items fail, the details are shown in the app. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if you need help resolving errors. Bulk restore progress indicator ## How bulk restore affects your live data Bulk restore updates your store data to match the backed-up versions for every item in the selected categories. BackupMaster matches each item by ID first, then by handle. * If a matching item is found, it's updated to the backed-up version. Changes made after the backup point are lost. * If no match is found (for example, the item was deleted), a new item is created from the backup. * Items that exist in your store but weren't in the backup are left unchanged. Bulk restore doesn't delete anything. ## Troubleshooting Check the restore notification email for details on items that failed. Retry those items individually using [single-item restore](/bigcommerce/restores/restore-a-single-item). BigCommerce API rate limits can slow processing, especially for products with many images. The restore is still running — wait for the completion email. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if no progress shows for more than 2 hours. Run another bulk restore with the correct restore point. The newer restore overwrites the previous one. A bulk operation (restore, export, or backup) is probably running. Wait for it to finish, then try again. # GDPR and data privacy for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/gdpr-and-data-privacy Understand how BackupMaster handles personal data, data controller and processor roles, and GDPR compliance for your BigCommerce store backups. If you operate in the EU or handle data from EU residents, the following describes how BackupMaster processes personal data. ## Data controller and processor roles You remain the data controller for your customers' personal data. BackupMaster acts as a data processor and processes data only as needed to deliver the backup service. ## Data Processing Agreement (DPA) The [Data Processing Addendum](https://www.backupmaster.io/gdpr-data-processing-addendum) covers how BackupMaster processes personal data on your behalf. ## Personal data in backups Backups may contain personal data such as customer names, emails, and order details. This data is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS. For details on how BackupMaster secures your data, see [Security overview](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/security-overview). ## Data deletion on uninstall When you uninstall BackupMaster, your backup data is permanently deleted after a retention period. See [Data retention](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) for details. ## Right to erasure For data deletion requests related to the GDPR right to erasure, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). The team can help you address specific deletion requests within your backup storage. ## Related * [Security overview](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/security-overview) * [SOC 2 certification](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification) * [Data retention](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) # Security overview for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/security-overview How BackupMaster protects your data with encryption, Microsoft Azure infrastructure, SOC 2 certification, and strict internal controls. BackupMaster protects your data with industry-standard measures to prevent breaches and loss. Azure data centers comply with industry standards including ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and NIST SP 800-53. Microsoft operations staff maintain, monitor, and administer the facilities 24/7. Azure provides built-in redundancy and high availability, so your backups stay safe during temporary service interruptions. ## SOC 2 certification BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified. An independent auditor verifies that BackupMaster's security controls meet AICPA standards for data security, availability, and confidentiality. Continuous monitoring and an annual audit keep BackupMaster compliant. For details, see [SOC 2 certification](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification). ## Access controls * BackupMaster connects to your store through the BigCommerce API using OAuth tokens granted during installation. * Any staff member with app access permissions in your BigCommerce admin can open BackupMaster. * Access within the app follows BigCommerce's app permissions. * The external portal uses a separate password and email verification. ## Internal controls BackupMaster enforces internal policies and processes that safeguard data, protect assets, and restrict access to sensitive systems and infrastructure. Access to customer data and production systems is limited to key staff on a need-to-know basis. All access is logged. ## How BackupMaster processes your data * The app reads your store data through the BigCommerce API to create backups. * It writes to your store only when you run a restore, clone, or import. * Your data is never sold, shared, or used for any purpose beyond the backup service. * No code is injected into your storefront. ## Legal documents * [Terms of Service](https://www.backupmaster.io/terms-of-service) * [Privacy Policy](https://www.backupmaster.io/privacy-policy) * [Data Processing Addendum](https://www.backupmaster.io/gdpr-data-processing-addendum) * [Sub-processors List](https://trust.backupmaster.io/) ## Related * [SOC 2 certification](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification) * [GDPR and data privacy](/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/gdpr-and-data-privacy) * [Data retention](/bigcommerce/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) # SOC 2 certification for BigCommerce Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/bigcommerce/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified, with continuous monitoring through Vanta and an annual independent audit. ## What is SOC 2 SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2) is a security framework developed by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). BackupMaster's external portal so you can access your backed-up data even if you lose access to your Shopify admin. Set up alternative access so you can browse your backed-up data outside of Shopify. It's an external portal with its own login, independent of your Shopify admin. Set it up while you still have access to BackupMaster in your Shopify admin. ## When you need it * **Store suspended or closed** — your backed-up data stays accessible through the portal. * **Locked out of Shopify** — password issues, account disputes, or revoked admin access. * **Team transitions** — a store owner leaves and admin access needs to be sorted out. ## Activate the portal Go to **Settings**. Select **Activate and Set Password**. Activate alternative access button in BackupMaster settings Select **Send** to receive a registration email. Open the email and select the registration link to create a password for the portal. Setting up a password for the alternative access portal Return to **Settings** in BackupMaster. Copy your data access link and save it somewhere secure. Alternative access portal showing the data access link You also receive the link by email. The portal uses encrypted data transmission, email verification, and a password you set during activation. If you uninstall BackupMaster, portal access continues only while your backup data exists. See [Data retention](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) for details on how long data is kept after uninstalling. # How Shopify backups work Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/backups/how-backups-work Learn how BackupMaster protects your Shopify store by tracking changes, saving versions, and retaining your data. BackupMaster backs up your Shopify store by pulling data through the Shopify API, saving each item individually, and tracking changes over time. Every backed-up item has its own version history, so you can see what changed, when it changed, and restore a previous version if you need to. ## The initial backup When you install BackupMaster and select a plan, the app runs an initial backup of your store. It pulls every [supported item](/shopify/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) — products, collections, themes, pages, and more — and saves each one as its first version in backup storage. This creates a restore point for all your store data. Initial backup in progress showing per-category status Wait for the initial backup to finish before you [clone data to another store](/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) or restore to that point. Both features depend on having a completed backup to work from. How long the initial backup takes depends on your store's size and Shopify's API rate limits. For each changed item, the app compares the Shopify version with the version already in storage. To change it, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io).
Version 1"] --> B["Day 2
No changes"] --> C["Day 3
Price changed
Version 2"] --> D["Day 4
No changes"] ``` Backups run every day, but BackupMaster only saves a new version when something changed. You can [restore a supported item](/shopify/restores/restore-a-single-item) to a previous version directly from this view. Side-by-side comparison of current and backed-up product versions with version dropdown For step-by-step instructions on browsing and comparing versions, see [View and browse backed-up Shopify data](/shopify/backups/view-and-browse-backed-up-data). You can also [export your backups](/shopify/exports-and-imports/export-and-download-a-backup) or [clone data to another store](/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) for staging or migration. After you uninstall BackupMaster, your backup data is kept for seven days and then permanently deleted from BackupMaster's servers. Deleted data can't be recovered. ## Store performance and API rate limits BackupMaster connects to your store through the Shopify API only. It doesn't inject any code into your storefront, so your page load times and customer experience aren't affected. Shopify enforces [API rate limits](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/usage/rate-limits) that control how frequently any app can send requests. BackupMaster stays within these limits automatically. A few factors affect how long backups and restores take: * Each item (product, page, theme file) requires one or more API calls. * Products with many images, variants, or metafields need multiple calls each. * Stores with thousands of items need thousands of API calls over time. If backup progress looks stuck, BackupMaster is most likely processing items that require many API calls, such as products with hundreds of variants. Wait for the completion email before assuming there's a problem. If no progress shows for more than two hours, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # View and browse backed-up Shopify data Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/backups/view-and-browse-backed-up-data Browse, search, and compare backed-up versions of your Shopify store data. Billing goes through the client's Shopify account — they see BackupMaster charges on their Shopify invoice, not yours. Staff accounts with app management permissions can install and manage BackupMaster on behalf of the store owner. ## Development stores Shopify Partner development stores can use BackupMaster **at no cost** while the store stays in development. You get full access to your selected plan's features without being charged. No credit card or billing approval is needed. When a development store transfers to a store owner: * BackupMaster's free access ends immediately. * The new owner needs to approve a paid plan to keep using BackupMaster. * Existing backup data is preserved through the transfer — no reinstallation is needed. * If the owner doesn't approve a plan, BackupMaster stops running backups. ## Multi-store pricing and referral program If you manage many client stores, we can offer multi-store pricing or a referral program. Every 30 days after that, Shopify charges for the next cycle automatically. To view your charges, go to **Settings** > **Billing** in your Shopify admin and look for BackupMaster under **App charges**. ## Free trial Every new installation starts with a **7-day free trial** that includes full access to your selected plan's features. Charges begin after the trial ends. If you uninstall BackupMaster before the trial ends, no charges apply. ## Change plans mid-cycle You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Shopify prorates charges automatically. For details on how upgrades and downgrades are billed, see [Manage your subscription](/shopify/billing-and-plans/manage-your-subscription). ## Charges after uninstalling Uninstalling BackupMaster cancels all future charges immediately. The current billing cycle still applies — charges already incurred aren't reversed. If you think a charge is incorrect, see [Refunds](/shopify/billing-and-plans/refunds). If you have questions, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Cancel your Shopify subscription Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/billing-and-plans/cancel-your-subscription How to cancel your BackupMaster subscription by uninstalling the app from Shopify, and what happens to your data and billing. To cancel BackupMaster, uninstall the app from your Shopify store. There's no separate cancellation step. **Prerequisites** * You're the store owner or a staff member with permission to manage apps. Go to **Settings** > **Apps and sales channels** in your Shopify admin. Find BackupMaster in the list and select **Uninstall**. Uninstalling BackupMaster from Shopify Apps and sales channels ## What happens after you uninstall * **Billing:** Shopify cancels future charges immediately. Any pending charges already incurred still apply. * **Backup data:** Your data is kept for a limited time, then permanently deleted. For details, see [Data retention](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention). * **Store code:** BackupMaster doesn't inject code into your store, so there's nothing to clean up. If you have questions, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Manage your Shopify subscription Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/billing-and-plans/manage-your-subscription How to upgrade, downgrade, or change your BackupMaster plan on Shopify. You can change your BackupMaster plan at any time. Open the BackupMaster app in your Shopify admin, go to **Settings** > **Subscription**, and select a different plan. BackupMaster settings page showing subscription plan options Shopify prompts you to approve a new recurring charge. This step is required because Shopify allows only one active recurring charge per app — your existing charge is canceled and replaced by the new one. ## Upgrade your plan When you upgrade, Shopify prorates the increased charge based on the price difference and the days remaining in your billing cycle. BackupMaster tracks your order volume automatically. If your store exceeds your plan's limit for three consecutive months, you need to upgrade to a plan that matches your current order volume. For details, see [Plans and pricing](/shopify/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing#exceeding-your-order-limit). ## Downgrade your plan When you downgrade, Shopify issues an app credit based on the price difference and the days remaining in your billing cycle. The credit applies to any future app purchase on Shopify. You can only downgrade to a plan that supports your store's current order volume. If your store processes more orders than a lower plan allows, that plan isn't available. Your backed-up data is preserved when you downgrade, but you lose access to features that aren't included in the lower plan. ## Cancel your subscription To cancel BackupMaster, uninstall the app from your Shopify store. For details, see [Cancel your subscription](/shopify/billing-and-plans/cancel-your-subscription). ## Need help? If you have questions or need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Multiple Shopify stores Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/billing-and-plans/multiple-stores How BackupMaster subscriptions work when you have more than one Shopify store. Each Shopify store needs its own BackupMaster installation and subscription. BackupMaster connects to each store's Shopify API independently, so backup data from one store is never accessible from another. Each store's plan and billing are managed separately through Shopify. Install BackupMaster on each store individually from the [Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/backup-master) and choose a plan for each store based on its order volume and feature needs. Plans can differ across stores — for example, a high-volume store might use Plus while a smaller store uses Essentials. ## Multi-store pricing If your brand operates several stores, we can offer multi-store pricing. We review each case individually — contact us at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) to discuss your setup. For agencies and Shopify Partners managing client stores, see [Agencies and Shopify Partners](/shopify/billing-and-plans/agencies-and-shopify-partners). # Plans and pricing for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing How BackupMaster pricing works, what each plan includes, and how to choose the right plan for your Shopify store. ## How pricing works BackupMaster pricing is based on your store's **average number of orders per month** and the **features** you need. Order volume tracks closely with overall store activity and the amount of data BackupMaster backs up, so it's a reliable way to match your plan to your store's size. During installation, BackupMaster checks your store's order volume over the past three months and recommends a plan. Plans that don't match your order volume are disabled automatically. If your order count is temporarily higher than usual because of a store migration, contact us at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) and we'll help you pick the right plan. The plan selection screen shows your average order volume alongside the available plans, so you can choose with confidence. BackupMaster plan selection screen showing average order volume Every new installation starts with a **7-day free trial** that includes full access to your selected plan's features. Charges begin after the trial ends. ## Plans BackupMaster offers three plan tiers. Each higher tier includes everything in the lower tiers, plus more. | Feature | Essentials | Pro | Plus | | - | :-: | :-: | :-: | | Monthly order limit | 300 | 600 | 1,500 | | Monthly price | \$19 | \$39 | \$79 | | Daily automated backups | | | | | Individual & bulk restore | | | | | Version history & comparison | | | | | 1-year data retention | | | | | External portal access | | | | | Data export (ZIP/email) | - | | | | Google Drive upload | - | | | | Store-to-store transfer | - | | | | Audit logs | - | - | | | Priority support | - | - | | For stores with higher order volumes, additional Plus plans are available. For details, see the [pricing page](https://www.backupmaster.io/pricing), or select a Plus plan directly in the app. Shopify handles all billing for BackupMaster. Prices appear during plan selection and on your Shopify invoice. For more information, see [Billing and payments](/shopify/billing-and-plans/billing-and-payments). ## Exceeding your order limit BackupMaster tracks your order volume automatically. If your store exceeds the plan limit for three consecutive months, upgrade to a plan that matches your current order volume. If you have questions, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Refunds for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/billing-and-plans/refunds How to request a refund for BackupMaster on Shopify and answers to common billing questions. ## Request a refund To request a refund, email [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) with your Shopify store URL, the charge you'd like refunded, and the reason for your request. We usually respond within a few hours on business days. # Clone your Shopify store data to another store Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store Transfer your Shopify store data to another store for staging, migration, expansion, or development. Clone data from one Shopify store to another — including products, collections, themes, metafields, and more. The source store's backup is used as the basis for the transfer, so both stores need BackupMaster installed with a completed backup. ## When to use cloning * **Staging or development** — clone production data to a test store to try theme changes, app integrations, or bulk edits. * **Regional expansion** — duplicate your catalog and content to a store targeting a different market or currency. * **New brand setup** — use an existing store as a template for a new brand. ## Supported data types | Data type | Supported | | - | - | | Products | | | Collections | | | Pages | | | Menus | | | Blogs and blog posts | | | Files | | | Themes | | | Customers | | | Metafield definitions | | | Metafields | | | Metaobject definitions | | | Metaobjects | | | Translations | | Orders, store settings, and third-party app data aren't transferred. ## Clone your store **Prerequisites** * BackupMaster installed on both stores * A Pro plan or higher on the source store (the destination can be on any plan) * A completed initial backup on both stores The steps below use "MyShopUS" as the source and "MyShopEU" as the destination. Replace these with your actual store names. ```mermaid theme={null} flowchart LR A["MyShopUS (source) myshopus.myshopify.com"] --> B[("MyShopUS backup storage")] -- "Clone data" --> C["MyShopEU (destination) myshopeu.myshopify.com"] ``` ### On the source store In the source store's Shopify admin, go to **Apps** > **BackupMaster** and select **Clone store**. Clone store button on the BackupMaster dashboard Confirm that you're in the source store (MyShopUS). Confirm source store screen Enter the destination store name (MyShopEU). Enter only the store name, not the full URL. For example, enter **myshopeu** — not myshopeu.myshopify.com. Enter destination store name field Copy the unique code that BackupMaster generates. You enter this on the destination store. Generated clone code to copy ### On the destination store In the destination store's Shopify admin, go to **Apps** > **BackupMaster** and select **Clone store**. Clone store button on the BackupMaster dashboard Confirm that you're in the destination store (MyShopEU). Confirm destination store screen Paste the code from the source store and select **Activate**. Activate clone code field and button Select the data types you want to clone, then select **Next**. Data type selection screen for cloning Select **Start import** to begin the transfer. You can close the browser — BackupMaster sends an email when it finishes. Clone progress indicator showing transfer status ## How items are matched BackupMaster matches each item by handle in the destination store. If a match exists, the destination item is updated with the source version. If no match is found, a new item is created. Cloning the same data twice doesn't create duplicates. Items that exist only on the destination are left untouched. Newly created items always receive new Shopify IDs on the destination store, because Shopify generates IDs per store — they aren't portable across stores. Handles, content fields, metafields, and all other backed-up data are preserved. ## How themes are handled When you include themes, you can transfer only the currently published theme or all themes from the source store. Themes are matched by name — if a theme with the same name exists on the destination, it's updated; otherwise a new theme is created. Cloned themes aren't automatically published. If the matched theme is already published on the destination it stays published, but a newly created theme remains unpublished. Publish it manually in the destination store's Shopify admin. ## How dependencies are resolved BackupMaster resolves dependencies between objects automatically. Before the transfer begins, it creates matching metafield and metaobject definitions and any missing languages in the destination store. When an item transfers, its metafields, metaobjects, and translations transfer with it — for example, a product is cloned together with all of its metafields and translations. References between objects — products in collections, metafields that reference products, files, collections, or blog posts — are resolved by matching handles in the destination store. If a metafield or metaobject definition already exists on the destination store with a different type than the source (for example, `single_line_text` vs. `multi_line_text`), the transfer for that definition fails. Make sure definition types match between stores, or remove the conflicting definition from the destination before cloning. ## Errors during cloning Errors can occur for a variety of reasons — temporary Shopify outages, store plan limits, missing data types, or edge cases. BackupMaster shows a **View details** link next to any affected item so you can see what went wrong. Clone errors with View details link After you resolve the issue, select **Retry Only Failed** to re-import only the items that failed — everything that already transferred successfully is skipped. If you need help, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) with the error details. ## How to transfer inventories Inventory quantities are transferred separately using a CSV file. In the source store, open BackupMaster, go to **Backup Storage**, select the **Inventory** category, choose the location and backup version you want, and download the CSV. Then import that CSV into the destination store using Shopify's built-in inventory import. For the full step-by-step process, see [Restore Shopify inventory](/shopify/restores/restore-inventory). ## Troubleshooting If a definition already exists on the destination store with a different type than the source (for example, `single_line_text` vs. `multi_line_text`), the transfer for that definition fails. Remove the conflicting definition from the destination store or update it to match the source, then select **Retry Only Failed**. Select **Retry Only Failed** to re-import only the items that failed. BackupMaster skips everything that already transferred successfully. Cloned themes aren't automatically published. Go to **Online Store** > **Themes** in the destination store's Shopify admin and publish the theme manually. ## Frequently asked questions No. Items that exist only on the destination are left untouched. Cloning only updates items that match by handle and creates new items for anything that doesn't exist yet. Yes. BackupMaster matches items by handle, so cloning the same data again updates existing items instead of creating duplicates. No. Orders, store settings, and third-party app data aren't transferred. Yes. Repeat the process for each destination store using a new clone code. No. You can close the browser after starting the import. BackupMaster sends an email when the process finishes. # What BackupMaster backs up, restores, and clones for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones A complete reference of every Shopify data type BackupMaster can back up, restore, and clone between stores. Knowing exactly what's protected helps you prepare for data loss, store migrations, and disaster recovery. BackupMaster covers the core business data that keeps your Shopify store running — products, customers, orders, themes, and more. The following table shows every data type BackupMaster backs up and whether you can restore or clone it. ## Supported data types | Data type | Backup | Restore | Clone | | - | - | - | - | | Products | | | | | Collections | | | | | Inventory | | | | | Translations | | | | | Themes | | | | | Files | | | | | Blogs and blog posts | | | | | Metafield definitions | | | | | Metafields | | | | | Metaobject definitions | | | | | Metaobjects | | | | | Pages | | | | | Menus | | | | | Customers | | | | | Orders | | - | - | | Locations | | - | - | | Saved searches | | - | - | | Policies | | - | - | | Shipping zones | | - | - | Products include title, description, vendor, status, product category, tags, product type, template suffix, SEO title, SEO description, handle, images (media), options, product metafields, and variants. Variants include image, title, price, compare-at price, cost per item, weight, SKU, barcode, inventory tracking, and variant metafields. Collections include their manually added products and their automated rules. Shopify now allows both in the same collection, and BackupMaster backs up, restores, and clones them together. Shopify merged smart (automated) and custom (manual) collections into a single collection type. BackupMaster now stores every collection under **Collections**. Versions previously kept under **Smart Collections** and **Custom Collections** are preserved there. Inventory restores and transfers work through a CSV file: download the backed-up quantities from the **Inventory** category and import them with Shopify's built-in inventory import. See [Restore Shopify inventory](/shopify/restores/restore-inventory). Orders are backed up and can be exported for reporting and record-keeping. Shopify limits updates to existing orders, so BackupMaster doesn't support restoring or cloning orders. BackupMaster automatically backs up metafields attached to products, variants, collections, blogs, blog posts, and pages. Metafields for orders and customers can be included on request — contact [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) to turn them on. ## Unsupported data types The following items aren't currently backed up. Some are inaccessible because of Shopify API limitations, others are managed by third-party services, and some haven't been prioritized yet. This list changes over time as coverage expands. * Store settings * Third-party apps * Reviews * Redirects * Coupons * Companies * Catalogs * Store analytics and reports ## Third-party page builder apps Page builder apps like PageFly, Shogun, and GemPages have partial coverage. BackupMaster can back up data these apps store through Shopify's native data structures (such as pages, metafields, and themes), but data stored in the app's own external systems isn't included. Contact the page builder's support team to confirm where your content is stored. ## Request a new data type BackupMaster's list of supported data types keeps expanding. If you need coverage for a data type that isn't listed here, let us know at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). Requests are prioritized based on customer demand and platform API availability. # Export and download a Shopify backup Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/exports-and-imports/export-and-download-a-backup Export your backed-up Shopify data and download it as a ZIP archive to your computer or external storage. Export your backed-up Shopify data as a ZIP archive and download it to your computer or external storage. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Exporting creates an extra copy on your local drive, following the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). It's also useful if you plan to pause or close your store temporarily. To transfer data between stores, use the [clone feature](/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) instead — no need to download and re-import files. ## Export and download your backup **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Export button on the BackupMaster dashboard Select **Export Now**. Export now option in the export menu Select the data types to include, choose **Send download link via email**, and select **Start Export**. Export settings with email download option Track progress on your dashboard. You don't need to keep the app open — BackupMaster processes the export in the background and notifies you when it finishes. Export progress indicator on the dashboard Check your email for the download link and save the ZIP file to your computer or external storage. The link expires after **seven days**. ## What the export file contains Exports arrive as ZIP archives in BackupMaster's internal format and include the data types you selected. Large exports are split into multiple volumes of approximately **500 MB** each. All volumes arrive in the same email. ## Troubleshooting Check your spam or junk folder. Verify that the email address on your account is correct. Start a new export if the seven-day window has passed. Refresh the dashboard. If the problem continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Import Shopify data from ZIP files Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/exports-and-imports/import-data-from-zip-files Import store data into Shopify from a previously exported BackupMaster ZIP file when in-app restore or cloning isn't an option. Import store data into Shopify from a previously exported BackupMaster ZIP file when in-app restore or cloning isn't an option. ## Do you need clone, restore, or import? To **copy or move data between stores**, use the [clone feature](/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) instead. Cloning transfers data directly between stores without downloading or uploading files. To **restore data within the same store** where BackupMaster is installed, you don't need a ZIP file — [restore individual items](/shopify/restores/restore-a-single-item) or use [bulk restore](/shopify/restores/restore-items-in-bulk) directly from the app. **ZIP import** is only for cases when neither option works: * **Lost store access** — you can't sign in to your Shopify admin, or your store is inactive. * **Store was paused or closed** — you previously exported your data and need to restore it into a new or reopened store. ## Import from a ZIP file **Prerequisites** * A ZIP file previously exported from BackupMaster * The BackupMaster app installed on the target store Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and select **Import** on the dashboard. Import button on the BackupMaster dashboard Select the ZIP file to import. BackupMaster analyzes the file and shows the data categories and item counts it contains. Selecting a ZIP file for import Select the data categories you want to import, then select **Confirm**. Selecting categories to import from the ZIP file BackupMaster shows real-time progress. You can close the browser — the import continues in the background, and you get a confirmation email when it finishes. Import progress indicator ## Troubleshooting Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) so the team can review the logs. The file must have been exported from BackupMaster. ZIP files from other sources aren't compatible. Individual item errors usually come from Shopify API restrictions. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) to find out which items failed and why. ## Frequently asked questions Yes. You can import a ZIP file exported from any BackupMaster-connected store into a different store. BackupMaster matches each item by ID first, then by handle. If it finds a match, it updates the existing item. If it doesn't, it creates a new item. # Set up scheduled exports for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/exports-and-imports/set-up-scheduled-exports Automate regular exports of your backed-up Shopify data to email or Google Drive on a weekly or monthly basis. Automate regular exports of your backed-up Shopify data to email or Google Drive on a weekly or monthly basis. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Scheduled exports create regular extra copies on your local drive or Google Drive, following the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). ## Configure a scheduled export **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup * A Google account with available Drive storage (for Google Drive delivery) Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Export button on the BackupMaster dashboard Select **Scheduled Export**. Scheduled export option in the export menu Choose your export frequency (**weekly** or **monthly**) and delivery method (**email** or **Google Drive**). If you choose Google Drive, authenticate your account when prompted. Scheduled export settings for frequency and delivery method Select **Scheduled Export** to save and activate. Scheduled exports run on Sundays after the automatic backup finishes. ## Troubleshooting Check that your plan is active and the schedule is turned on in the export settings. Confirm that you granted BackupMaster the required permission during the authentication flow. Try again in a different browser if the problem continues. If it still fails, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Upload a Shopify backup to Google Drive Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/exports-and-imports/upload-a-backup-to-google-drive Export your backed-up Shopify data and upload it directly to Google Drive for cloud storage. Export your backed-up Shopify data and upload it straight to Google Drive for cloud storage. BackupMaster stores your data in secure backup storage — that's your primary backup. Uploading to Google Drive creates an extra cloud copy, following the **3-2-1 backup rule** (three copies of your data, on two different storage types, with one stored offsite). It's also useful if you plan to pause or close your store temporarily. To transfer data between stores, use the [clone feature](/shopify/cloning/clone-store-data-to-another-store) instead — no need to download and re-import files. ## Upload your backup to Google Drive **Prerequisites** * A **Pro plan** or higher * At least one completed backup * A Google account with available Drive storage Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and select **Export** on the dashboard. Export button on the BackupMaster dashboard Select **Export Now**. Select the data types to include and choose **Add to Google Drive** as the delivery method. Upload to Google Drive option Connect your Google Drive account when prompted. Select the permission checkbox so BackupMaster can create and upload files to your Drive. Google Drive access permissions Select **Start Export**. Track progress on your dashboard — you don't need to keep the app open. After the upload finishes, confirm that the backup file appears in your Google Drive. You can download the file from Google Drive to local or external storage at any time. ## Folder structure in Google Drive BackupMaster creates a folder in your Google Drive based on your store name. For example, if your store is `storename.myshopify.com`: ``` storename-backup/ ├── 2026-03-01/ │ └── storename.myshopify.com-export-20260301120000.zip ├── 2026-03-15/ │ └── storename.myshopify.com-export-20260315120000.zip └── ... ``` Each export gets its own date folder. To have BackupMaster automatically delete older exports, turn on automatic cleanup in the export settings. ## Troubleshooting Select the permission checkbox during the authentication flow. Try a different browser if the problem continues. Check your storage at [drive.google.com/settings/storage](https://drive.google.com/settings/storage). Free up space or upgrade your Google storage plan, then retry the export. Refresh the dashboard. If the problem continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). # Get started with BackupMaster for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/getting-started/get-started-with-backupmaster Install BackupMaster on your Shopify store, choose a plan, and run your first backup. This tutorial shows you how to set up BackupMaster on your Shopify store and run your first backup. By the end, your store has automatic daily backups running. **Before you start, you need:** * An active Shopify store. * A Shopify account with permission to install apps and approve app charges. ## Step 1: Install BackupMaster Go to the [BackupMaster listing](https://apps.shopify.com/backup-master) in the Shopify App Store, select **Install**, and approve the requested permissions. Shopify shows a permissions screen that lists every data type BackupMaster needs to access — you grant all permissions at once as part of the install. BackupMaster uses these permissions to read your store data for backups and write to it during restores. BackupMaster listing in the Shopify App Store After you approve, Shopify redirects you to the BackupMaster dashboard. ## Step 2: Choose a plan Each plan tier supports a different order volume range and includes a different set of features. Review the available plans, pick one that fits your order volume and feature needs, and confirm your selection. BackupMaster plan selection screen with order volume indicator BackupMaster includes a **7-day free trial**. Shopify Partner development stores can use BackupMaster at no cost while the store remains in development. A paid plan is required once the store transfers to the store owner. For a detailed breakdown of features and pricing, see [Plans and pricing](/shopify/billing-and-plans/plans-and-pricing). ## Step 3: Run your first backup BackupMaster starts pulling data from the Shopify API as soon as you activate a plan. Open the BackupMaster dashboard and check the progress indicator to track the backup. Initial backup progress indicator on the BackupMaster dashboard Backup time depends on the size of your store. Small stores finish in minutes; stores with thousands of products can take a few hours. You can close the app and keep working in Shopify while the backup runs — BackupMaster sends you an email when it finishes. After the initial backup, BackupMaster runs a backup once every 24 hours automatically and captures only the items that changed since the previous run. For details on backup scheduling and manual backups, see [How backups work](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work). Comparison view showing differences between current and backed-up versions For more on navigating your backup data, see [View and browse backed-up Shopify data](/shopify/backups/view-and-browse-backed-up-data). ## Next steps You've installed BackupMaster, chosen a plan, and completed your first backup. Your store is now backed up automatically every 24 hours. Accidentally deleted a product or made unwanted changes to a theme? Roll back to a previous version. Recover from a bulk edit gone wrong or roll back an entire data category at once. Download your backup data to your device or upload it to Google Drive. Selecting specific fields to restore for a product Confirm the restore in the dialog. BackupMaster shows a success message when it finishes. Individual restores typically complete in seconds. Successful restoration confirmation message ## How restoring affects your live data BackupMaster matches each item in three steps: 1. **Match by ID** — BackupMaster looks for the item by its unique Shopify ID. For products, only the fields you selected are overwritten; other fields stay unchanged. When BackupMaster creates a new item (step 3), Shopify assigns it a fresh numeric ID. This is a Shopify platform constraint — no app can set the ID of a new object through the API. If your external integrations, hardcoded links, or third-party apps reference the old Shopify ID, update them after the restore. All content fields are preserved: handles, titles, descriptions, prices, images, metafields, tags, and everything else BackupMaster backs up. If the item matches by ID or handle (steps 1 or 2), its existing Shopify ID stays the same. New IDs only apply when BackupMaster creates a brand-new item because no match was found. ## Troubleshooting A bulk operation (restore, export, or backup) is probably running. Wait for it to finish, then try again. Retry the restore. If the problem continues, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). If you used field-level restore and didn't select those fields, they aren't included. Restore again with all fields selected, or check the item in backup storage to confirm the data was captured. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if you need help. # Restore a Shopify theme Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/restores/restore-a-theme Restore a full theme directly or download it as a ZIP to preview before publishing. Restore a full theme directly to your store or download it as a ZIP to preview before publishing. Theme customizations are stored in theme settings files and are included in backups. Images used in theme customizations live in Shopify Files, which BackupMaster backs up separately under the **Files** category — to fully restore a theme's appearance, you might need to restore both. **Prerequisites** * At least one theme backup version in your backup storage * Access to your Shopify admin for uploading and previewing downloaded themes ## Restore a theme to your store Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and go to **Backup Storage** > **Themes**. Themes backup section in backup storage Select the theme you want to restore. List of backed-up themes available for restoration Select the version you want, then select **Restore Entire Theme**. Confirm when prompted. If you restore the currently published theme, changes go live immediately. To test first, use the [download and preview method](#download-and-preview-a-theme) instead. Restore entire theme button BackupMaster shows restore progress on the dashboard and displays a result page when it finishes. If any errors occur, check the error details in the app. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if you need help. Theme restoration completed successfully ## Download and preview a theme Use this approach to inspect a backed-up theme version before applying it to your live store. In **Backup Storage** > **Themes**, select the theme and version you want to check. Select **Download Theme** to get a ZIP file. Download theme as ZIP file In your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store** > **Themes**, select **Add theme**, and upload the ZIP file. Uploading theme ZIP file to Shopify Preview the uploaded theme to verify customizations and layout. Publish when you're satisfied. Preview and publish the restored theme ## Troubleshooting Check the error details in the app. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if you need help. The file might not have downloaded completely. Re-download and try again. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if the issue continues. Images used in theme customizations are stored in Shopify Files, not in the theme itself. Restore the **Files** category as well, or re-upload the images through the theme editor. Menus are managed through Shopify's Navigation settings, not theme files. Theme restores don't affect navigation menus. Restore menus separately from **Backup Storage**. # Restore a Shopify theme asset Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/restores/restore-a-theme-asset Restore an individual theme asset file like a Liquid template, CSS file, or JSON settings without affecting the rest of your theme. Restore a single asset file without affecting the rest of your theme. This is useful when you need to undo changes to a specific template or configuration file. **Prerequisites** * At least one theme backup version in your backup storage ## Find the asset Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and go to **Backup Storage** > **Themes**. Select the theme that contains the asset. Scroll below the theme card to see individual assets, then select the one you want to restore. List of individual theme assets ## Compare and restore BackupMaster shows all versions of the selected asset. For code files, it highlights the differences between versions so you can see exactly what changed. Comparing theme asset versions with highlighted differences Select the version you want, then select **Restore to this version**. Only the selected asset is updated — the rest of your theme stays unchanged. Confirming theme asset restoration ## Troubleshooting The asset might not have existed when the backup ran. Check whether it was added after the most recent backup. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if you need help. # Restore Shopify inventory Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/restores/restore-inventory Download backed-up inventory quantities as a CSV file and import them into Shopify to restore inventory levels for a specific location. Restore inventory levels for a specific location by downloading a CSV from your backup and importing it into Shopify. Shopify's inventory API has strict rate limits that make automated bulk updates unreliable, so the CSV approach gives you full control and lets you verify quantities before importing. **Prerequisites** * At least one inventory backup in your backup storage * The inventory location must exist in your store (**Settings** > **Locations** in Shopify admin) ## Download and import inventory data Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin and go to **Backup Storage** > **Inventory**. A list of backed-up locations appears. Inventory backup section in backup storage List of backed-up inventory locations Select the location you want to restore, then pick a backup version. Each version shows its capture date and time. Selecting an inventory version to restore Select **Download CSV**. The file contains product SKUs, variant information, and quantities for the selected location and version. Download CSV button for inventory data Open the CSV and verify the quantities. Confirm the location exists in **Settings** > **Locations**, then import the CSV into Shopify using the standard inventory import. For detailed instructions, visit the [Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/inventory/getting-started-with-inventory/inventory-csv#import-inventory). Importing inventory CSV file into Shopify ## Known limitations * **One location at a time** — you can only download and import inventory for one location per operation. Repeat the process for each location. * **No automated restore** — unlike other data types, inventory can't be restored with a single action. Download, review, and import the CSV manually. * **Quantities only** — the CSV includes inventory quantities but not cost per item or tracking information. * **Don't modify the CSV structure** — keep column headers and file format intact so Shopify accepts the import. This feature is in beta. If you run into issues or have feedback, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). ## Troubleshooting The location might not have been active when the backup ran. Only locations present during backup appear in the list. Confirm the location in the CSV matches an existing location in **Settings** > **Locations**. Don't modify column headers or file structure before importing. Verify you selected the correct backup version. Orders or manual adjustments between the backup and the import can also cause differences. # Restore Shopify items in bulk Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/restores/restore-items-in-bulk Restore entire data categories at once instead of recovering items one by one. Bulk restore is the fastest way to roll back large amounts of store data to a previous state. Restore entire data categories at once instead of recovering items one by one. Bulk restore is the fastest way to roll back large amounts of store data to a previous state. **Prerequisites** * At least one completed backup in your backup storage * The categories you want to restore must be [supported for bulk restore](/shopify/coverage/what-backupmaster-backs-up-restores-and-clones) ## Run a bulk restore Open **BackupMaster** from your Shopify admin, go to **Backup Storage**, and select **Bulk Restore**. To bring back only items that were deleted from your store and leave existing items untouched, select the option to restore only deleted items. Selecting item categories for bulk restore If you selected **Products**, select **Settings** to choose specific fields. Options include basic fields, images, and prices. This prevents overwriting data you want to keep. Selecting specific product fields for bulk restore Select **Start Restore** to begin. Retry those items individually using [single-item restore](/shopify/restores/restore-a-single-item). Shopify API rate limits can slow processing, especially for products with many images. The restore is still running — wait for the completion email. Contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io) if no progress shows for more than two hours. Run another bulk restore with the correct restore point. The newer restore overwrites the previous one. A bulk operation (restore, export, or backup) is probably running. Wait for it to finish, then try again. # GDPR and data privacy for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/security-and-compliance/gdpr-and-data-privacy Understand how BackupMaster handles personal data, data controller and processor roles, and GDPR compliance for your Shopify store backups. If you operate in the EU or handle data of EU residents, the following describes how BackupMaster processes personal data. ## Data controller and processor roles You remain the data controller for your customers' personal data. BackupMaster acts as the data processor and processes data only as needed to deliver the backup service. ## Data Processing Agreement (DPA) The [Data Processing Addendum](https://www.backupmaster.io/gdpr-data-processing-addendum) covers how BackupMaster processes personal data on your behalf. ## Personal data in backups Backups can contain personal data such as customer names, emails, and order details. This data is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS. For details on how BackupMaster secures your data, see [Security overview](/shopify/security-and-compliance/security-overview). ## Data deletion on uninstall When you uninstall BackupMaster, your backup data is permanently deleted after a retention period. See [Data retention](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) for details. ## Shopify compliance webhooks Shopify requires all apps to handle [mandatory compliance webhooks](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/compliance/privacy-law-compliance). BackupMaster subscribes to the following webhooks: * **customers/data\_request** — when a customer requests their stored data, BackupMaster processes the request and provides the relevant data. * **customers/redact** — when a store owner requests deletion of a customer's data (including GDPR right-to-erasure requests), BackupMaster removes the specified customer data from backups within 30 business days. * **shop/redact** — sent 48 hours after you uninstall BackupMaster, triggering deletion of all store data from BackupMaster's servers. For data deletion requests that fall outside Shopify's webhook process, contact support at [support@backupmaster.io](mailto:support@backupmaster.io). ## Related * [Security overview](/shopify/security-and-compliance/security-overview) * [SOC 2 certification](/shopify/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification) * [Data retention](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) # Security overview for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/security-and-compliance/security-overview How BackupMaster protects your data with encryption, Microsoft Azure infrastructure, SOC 2 certification, and strict internal controls. BackupMaster uses industry-standard measures to protect your data from breaches and loss. This page summarizes the security protocols that protect your business and personal information. ## Encryption BackupMaster encrypts your data at every stage: * **In transit:** Data transferred between your Shopify store and BackupMaster uses the latest recommended secure cipher suites and TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocols. * **At rest:** Backup data stored on Microsoft Azure servers is encrypted with AES-256. ## Microsoft Azure infrastructure BackupMaster's infrastructure and your data are hosted on Microsoft Azure in the **South East US** region. Azure data centers meet industry standards including ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and NIST SP 800-53. Microsoft operations staff maintain, monitor, and administer these facilities 24/7. Azure provides built-in redundancy and high availability, so your backups remain safe during temporary service interruptions. ## SOC 2 certification BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified. An independent auditor verifies that BackupMaster's security controls meet AICPA standards for data security, availability, and confidentiality. We maintain compliance through continuous monitoring and an annual audit. For more details, see [SOC 2 certification](/shopify/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification). ## Access controls * BackupMaster connects to your store through the Shopify API using OAuth tokens granted during installation. * Any staff member with app access in your Shopify admin can open BackupMaster. * Shopify's app permissions determine access within the app. * The external portal uses a separate password and email verification. ## Internal controls BackupMaster enforces internal policies and processes that safeguard data, protect assets, and restrict access to sensitive systems and infrastructure. Access to customer data and production systems is limited to key staff and granted on a need-to-know basis. All access is logged. ## How BackupMaster processes your data * The app reads your store data through the Shopify API to create backups. * It writes to your store only when you explicitly run a restore, clone, or import. * Your data is never sold, shared, or used for any purpose beyond the backup service. * No code is injected into your storefront. ## Legal documents * [Terms of Service](https://www.backupmaster.io/terms-of-service) * [Privacy Policy](https://www.backupmaster.io/privacy-policy) * [Data Processing Addendum](https://www.backupmaster.io/gdpr-data-processing-addendum) * [Sub-processors List](https://trust.backupmaster.io/) ## Related * [SOC 2 certification](/shopify/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification) * [GDPR and data privacy](/shopify/security-and-compliance/gdpr-and-data-privacy) * [Data retention](/shopify/backups/how-backups-work#data-retention) # SOC 2 certification for Shopify Source: https://docs.backupmaster.io/shopify/security-and-compliance/soc-2-certification BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified, with continuous monitoring through Vanta and an annual independent audit. ## What is SOC 2 SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2) is a security framework developed by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). It defines criteria for managing customer data based on five Trust Services Criteria: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. An independent auditor issues a SOC 2 report after evaluating whether an organization's controls meet these standards. ## BackupMaster's SOC 2 certification BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified.
