# SOC 2 certification for BigCommerce

> BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified, with continuous monitoring through Vanta and an annual independent audit.

## What is SOC 2

SOC 2 (System and Organization Controls 2) is a security framework developed by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). It defines criteria for managing customer data based on five Trust Services Criteria: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. A SOC 2 report is issued by an independent auditor who evaluates whether an organization's controls meet these standards.

## BackupMaster's SOC 2 certification

BackupMaster is SOC 2 certified. An independent auditor verifies that BackupMaster's security controls meet AICPA standards for data security, availability, and confidentiality.

## Continuous monitoring

Compliance is maintained through [Vanta](https://www.vanta.com/), which continuously monitors BackupMaster's infrastructure and security controls. This ensures that controls remain effective between audit cycles.

## Annual audit

An independent auditor conducts a SOC 2 audit each year. The audit evaluates BackupMaster's controls against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria.
